Gateway Admission

Applicants interested in taking just a few courses at Dallas International University (up to 9 semester hours) may choose to complete the Gateway application. This streamlined application process does not require submission of test scores or letters of recommendation–just a few simple steps.

Gateway students who complete their allowed semester hours and wish to take more courses will need to complete the requirements for Undergraduate or Graduate admission before continuing their studies at Dallas International. See our Change Admission Status page for more information.

Dallas International University requires an official copy of at least one transcript showing classes completed, grades attained, and degree(s) (or diploma) granted which shows an appropriate level of education for the course(s) the student wishes to take as a Gateway student. Ideally, transcripts should show the highest level of schooling you have completed so far.

Transcripts should come directly to DIU from the school itself or be in an unopened, signed and sealed envelope which you received directly from the school.

Electronic transcripts sent by the school are acceptable as long as the school recognizes them as official. Those may be sent to admissions@diu.edu.

If using regular mail instead, schools should direct transcripts to Dallas International Admissions, 7500 W Camp Wisdom Road, Dallas, TX 75236.

To qualify for enrollment in up to nine semester hours of any undergraduate and/or graduate classes, please submit a transcript showing one of the following:

    • a completed Master’s degree with at least a 3.00 cumulative grade point average (GPA), or
    • a completed Bachelor’s degree with at least a 2.80 cumulative GPA

To qualify for enrollment in up to nine semester hours of undergraduate classes, please submit transcripts showing the following:

    • graduation from high school with at least a 2.75 cumulative GPA, plus
    • any undergraduate study previously completed

Students who have not yet completed high school at the time they begin classes at DIU are limited to enrollment in two specific classes: IS1301-IN and IS1311-IN. To qualify please submit a high school transcript showing:

    • at least two years of high school completed with at least a 2.75 cumulative GPA.

Foreign transcripts: For Gateway admission, official academic records from outside the United States or Canada do not need be sent to a credential evaluation service, but an English translation of the transcript should be provided along with the transcript for transcripts not already in English.

Where appropriate for non-native speakers of English, evidence of satisfactory performance on the TOEFL exam (minimum score of 90), the IELTS (minimum score of 6.5), or the Common European Framework of Reference for Language Evaluation (level C1 preferred).  Contact isc@diu.edu for further information and direction in providing this proof.

If you will be needing a student visa while studying at Dallas International University, please visit our International Student admission page for steps and instructions. The international student application process includes the requirements for visa certification and therefore will take a few weeks extra to complete. Submit your Gateway application early–2 to 3 months before your first class at DIU. Contact our international student coordinator (isc@diu.edu) with any questions.

Per Texas state law, applicants who will be under 22 years of age at the time they are taking classes on campus at Dallas International University must provide evidence of bacterial meningitis vaccination. This requirement is automatically waived for students whose 22nd birthday has already passed or who are only taking classes at DIU from a distance (i.e. distance education classes only).

If you will be under age 22 when you begin classes at DIU, below is a list of forms you may need to meet the requirement to provide proof of Bacterial Meningitis vaccination (or exemption from it) to DIU.
