CEWA & Dallas International welcome new faculty member Neil Coulter

Neil Coulter has spent 12 years in Papua New Guinea, working in ethnomusicology, literacy, government relations, education, and administration. During that time, he also served as the Pacific Area Ethnomusicology & Arts Coordinator for SIL. His doctoral dissertation, at Kent State University, presented ways of understanding music endangerment and encouraging revitalization of indigenous musical traditions. He has presented these ideas in publications and at conferences all over the world. A primary motivation in all of Neil’s field research has been encouraging rural communities to hold onto their distinctive artistic traditions in the face of increasing global pressures. Neil is also passionate about good writing and communication, and enjoys editorial projects. Since 2013, he has been Senior Editor at the Global Forum on Arts and Christian Faith, an online publication that he helped design and launch. In his spare time, Neil is an avid reader and book reviewer, and enjoys performing contemporary classical music for saxophone.
