On Tuesday, August 22, the day before the start of the fall term, Dallas International University welcomed new students with a pizza dinner! The DIU community turned out in even greater numbers than expected, filling the meeting room of the Activity Center with conversation, laughter, and joyful reunions.
To best introduce new students to various community members, faculty and staff took their seats first, and returning students filled the open spaces after new students had chosen their spots. This way, each table boasted a lively mix of new and old faces.
After attendees had some time to get to know their tablemates, Meg Trihus, Dean of Students, introduced three students who have spent various amounts of time at DIU. The students each shared about their favorite campus pastimes to give new students a taste of the eclectic campus life at DIU. They encouraged the newcomers to get involved and drew on their own experiences to illustrate how involvement can build a lasting community.
This semester, DIU has the highest enrollment for a single term ever! About 25 percent of those enrolled are new students. This group of new students also includes our largest freshman class. We are excited to expand our efforts to prepare global leaders to partner with local communities. We are also excited to discover how these new students will enrich our community.
