10 He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” (Psalm 46:10)
I want you to ask yourself a question that you’ve probably asked yourself many times before. I know I have, and I also know that I’ve asked it actually believing if what I ask happens, the result will be as I expected. The question I have for you and me is this: how would we fill in the blank in the statement, “If only I had ______, everything would be right?” What would our answer be?
There is one answer that is readily available to you and me every day of our lives, and that is prayer, or what some describe as conversing with God. When we pray, we’re not able to respond to the myriad of activities and conversations that surround us. We are in His presence and enjoying time listening and sharing with God our deepest needs, struggles, petitions, and gratefulness.
The answers to our prayers, sometimes immediate, sometimes not, are always fuller, richer, better, more wonderful than we can imagine. They are also sometimes different than what we expected. Here’s a prayer about prayer:
“In quietness and in confidence shall be our strength. By the might of thy Spirit lift us, we pray thee, to thy presence, where we may be still and know that thou art God.”
We constantly struggle to believe that conversing with God really will make this or that possible. I encourage us to bring even that topic to our heavenly Father, who loves us unconditionally and is knocking on the door of our lives to give us rest, speak into our lives and hear our prayers.
Paz,
Scott
