…came down from heaven, And was incarnate by the Holy Ghost of the Virgin Mary, And was made man: And was crucified also for us… (from the Nicene Creed)
“But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.” (1 Peter 3:8)
There is an emphasis today on living life to the fullest and enjoying every day we have on earth. Life is an incredible gift created by God. Life is sacred. But truth be told, life also includes many things, not all of which are enjoyable. The Nicene Creed gives us a glimpse of each of the persons of the triune godhead. In the second paragraph, this creed describes the life of Christ, from his eternal past to his eternal future, 131 words! Only four words refer to what we might call his earthly existence saying, “and was made man.” Jesus was part of a much larger plan and calling put in place by the godhead for the redemption of the world. Much of what He experienced was difficult and hard, but completely in fulfillment of God’s will.
This reminds me that God’s eternal purposes for each of us include our earthly life, our careers, our families, and our activities, but it also includes the sacrifices and less comfortable things that we often find ourselves committed to. We learn to depend on His grace for the challenges we face. Christ is our example of a life of purpose that includes all the fullness of experiences that we encounter as humans, yet without sin and all for God’s glory.

Scott

Macro Analysis of Hebrew Poetic and Prophetic Discourse
This one-day conference will feature a plenary speaker (Benjamin J. Noonan), roundtable discussion, and up to 20 selected papers in 3 parallel sessions. The research question focuses on whether macro analysis of Old Testament poetic and prophetic books is possible, given the largely anthological nature of many of the texts. Accepted presentations can be viewed here. Virtual attendance via Zoom is available. A discounted price is available to students. Click here for more information and to register.
North Texas Giving Day
