Dr. Brian Schrag and Dr. Neil R. Coulter, of the Center for Excellence in World Arts, will each be chairing panel sessions at the upcoming Annual Conference of the Society for Ethnomusicology (SEM), held in Austin, Texas.
Schrag chairs a panel titled “Repossessing Practices: Heritage, Nation, Worship,” and Coulter chairs the panel “Crossing Identities: Indigeneity and Transnationality in Asian-Pacific Music.”
This year marks the sixtieth anniversary of SEM, an organization of approximately 1,750 members worldwide. The conference in Austin, from December 3rd through the 6th, will draw nearly a thousand attendees and feature hundreds of presentations on topics related to many facets of music around the world.
