Based on her 2013 thesis at Dallas International, Kathleen Sackett has a chapter being published in a new book coming out this month from Cambridge University Press. Her thesis was about working with the Tsakhur speaking community of Azerbaijan, helping the community find ways to spell their language in a way that was acceptable to as many as possible, including that the spelling system had to work for texting on cell phones. Her chapter in the book, “Community-driven goal centred orthography development: a Tsakhur case”, is a condensation of her thesis, highlighting the way the community was involved in developing their own spelling system. The book is Creating Orthographies for Endangered Languages, edited by Mari C. Jones and Damien Mooney.
