Dissertation topic: From the Philippines to the Global North: A Participatory Action Research on Intercultural Campus Ministry
Abstract: My dissertation explores the practices of diaspora missions through intercultural campus ministry, focusing on first-generation Filipino missionaries serving in the global north. Filipino diasporas are one of the largest scattered people groups. In my studies, themes concerning intercultural obstacles emerged as restraining forces when engaging in missions. Such differences include contexts (high and low context), time orientation, trust formation, and degree of interdependence. Lewin’s force field analysis theory proposes two ways to break the quasi-equilibrium state, decrease the restraining forces and increase the driving forces. My research expounded on ways to decrease the restraining forces by intercultural competency training and increase the driving forces by showing Scriptural references through relational pedagogy
Keywords: intercultural campus ministry, diaspora missiology, relational realism paradigm, intercultural competency.
