1. Choose an Orientation to attend

Most students choose to attend the Orientation program that starts just a few days before their classes start. You may, however, attend an Orientation offered earlier in the term. Please contact Admissions to notify them if you plan on coming sooner than expected.  Click to view specific dates:

  • Session 3 or 4 Orientation (view dates) No group orientation available. Contact Admissions to schedule the necessary orientation meetings.
  • Summer Orientation

Returning after an absence? Students returning after a leave of absence (more than 2 years) are given the option to complete either the online or the on-campus Orientation program. Returning students will be contacted closer to the time of Orientation with more details. 2. Orientation Schedule

Below are listed the typical schedules for Dallas International Orientation programs. Please note that these are subject to change. Once admitted and registered, you will receive more-detailed information closer to the date(s) of your Orientation.

Two-day Orientations

Day 1:   3:00-5:00pm, with dinner following

Day 2:   8:00am-12:00pm

One-day Orientations

  • Permanent and local address information
  • Telephone number

  • Any passwords you have already been using for Dallas International business

9:00 a.m.         Library Orientation (Pike, Library)

9:50 a.m.         ILC Welcome Desk (Mahler, Center Director’s Office)

10:00 a.m.       Break (Four Points Lounge)

10:30 a.m.       Dallas Int’l Logistics (Mahler 5/7)

11:00 a.m.       Computer Orientation (Mahler 6—Computer Lab)

*Bring any passwords you have received for Dallas Int’l business already, permanent/local addresses, and emergency contact information. Also bring any electronic devices on which you would like to have Wi-Fi access.

12:00 p.m.       Lunch *The Dining Hall will be open.

2-5:00pm         International Student Orientation (Pike 118)


Checklist: Please use the rest of the day to finish any remaining business.

  • Confirm financial arrangements with Business Manager (Pike 112),
    then make payment to Cashier (Pike 112)
  • ILC registration/ILC building access name badge (Welcome Desk, Mahler)
  • ILC parking sticker/vehicle registration (Welcome Desk, Mahler)
  • Sign up for the ILC News (DCN) and ILC Messages (DCM) (Welcome Desk, Mahler)
  • Confirm mail delivery location with both the Welcome Desk and the Mailroom
  • Meet with adviser (by mutual appointment)
  • Take electronic devices to Computing Services for Wi-Fi access (Mahler 11)

3. What to bring to Orientation

Day 1

  • Government-approved I.D. (driver’s license or passport)

Day 2

  • Comfortable walking shoes and drinking water for the Campus Tour
  • Orientation Packets (received on Day 1 of Orientation)
  • Password to log in to Campus Café
    You should have received this information for post-admission paperwork and registration. Please email online@diu.edu if you do not have your username or password for your account.
  • Permanent address & local address while at Dallas International
  • Emergency contact info
  • Payment for tuition
    E-check, cash, check, credit/debit (via PayPal), or money order accepted. Payment plans possible. Visit our How to Pay page for more information.
  • Packed lunch or cash for the Dining Hall
  • If you are with a sending agency: documentation of any training requirements (for when you meet with your academic advisor)

4. Where to find us

Dallas International is located on the International Linguistics Center (ILC) about 25 minutes south of downtown Dallas.  Visit our Location & Directons for more information about how to get to our campus.

When you arrive on campus you will first notice the Mahler building with flags in front.  Park in front of the building and stop by the Welcome Desk just inside the glass doors.  The Welcome Desk is a great place to pick up a map of the center, sign-in as a visitor, and register your vehicle with the ILC.

If you are already familiar with the campus, you can proceed directly to the Activity Center for orientation.  Those living on campus should be sure to check in to their rooms before orientation starts as the housing office may close before orientation is over.

5. Housing

Housing should be arranged prior to your arrival on campus. Although Dallas International does not provide any housing, there is on-campus housing available through the SIL Housing office.  Visit our Housing and Campus Services page for more information.

Visitors are always welcome to stay in on-campus housing as well.  Contact the SIL Housing office directly for their nightly rate and to make reservations.
