*Students taking only distance education courses are not required to attend on-site Orientation.

Choose an Orientation to attend

All students are required to complete the online orientation before classes begin. On-campus students must also attend on-campus orientation. Below view specific dates:

  • Spring 2020 Orientation (view dates)
  • May 2020 Orientation (online only)
  • Summer 2020 Orientation (online only)
  • Fall 2020 Orientation (view dates)

Are you a returning student?

  • If you were last enrolled more than 2 years ago, you must complete the online Orientation. You may also attend the on-campus orientation if you would like. Returning students will be contacted closer to the time of orientation with more details.
  • If you were last enrolled less than 2 years ago, you are not required to complete or attend any Orientation.

Orientation Schedule

Below are listed the typical schedules for Dallas International Orientation programs. Please note that these are subject to change. Once admitted and registered, you will receive further details closer to the date(s) of your Orientation.

Two-day Orientations

Day 1:   9:30am – 5:00pm, with dinner following

Day 2:   9:00am – 12:00pm

One-day Orientations

9:00am – 5:00pm

  • Photo ID (passport or driver’s license)
  • Permanent and local address information
  • Telephone number
  • Emergency contact information
  • Any passwords you have already been using for Dallas Int’l business

 

Two Day Orientation Schedule (subject to change)

Day 1 (Event Center)

9:30 a.m.                        Orientation Welcome and Introduction

10:30 a.m.                      Group Rotations (tour, library, computer)

12:30 p.m.                      Lunch *The Dining Hall will be open for service until 1:00 p.m.

1:30 – 2:30 p.m.             Group Rotations (tour, library, computer)

3:45 p.m.                        Afternoon Gathering

5:15 – 6:30 p.m.             Dinner

 

Day 2

9:00 – 11:00 a.m.         Advisor Appointments (Mahler and CEWA)

9:00 – 11:00 a.m.         Wi-Fi Set-up (Computer Lab) *For personal devices; not mandatory

11:15 a.m.                    Student Panel (Event Center)

12:00 p.m.                    Lunch *The Dining Hall will be open for service until 1:00 p.m.

1:00 p.m.                      Guest House Orientation (Guest House Lounge) *Required for Guest House residents only

What to bring to Orientation

  • Government-approved I.D. (driver’s license or passport)
  • Comfortable walking shoes and drinking water for the Campus Tour
  • Orientation Packets (received on Day 1 of Orientation)
  • Password to log in to Campus Café
    You should have received this information for post-admission paperwork and registration. Please email online@diu.edu if you do not have your username or password for your account.
  • Permanent address & local address while at Dallas International
  • Emergency contact info
  • Payment for tuition
    E-check, cash, check, credit/debit (via PayPal), or money order accepted. Payment plans possible. Visit our How to Pay page for more information.
  • Packed lunch or cash for the Dining Hall
  • If you are with a sending agency: documentation of any training requirements (for when you meet with your academic advisor)

Where to find us

Dallas International is located on the International Linguistics Center (ILC) about 25 minutes south of downtown Dallas.  Visit our Location & Directions page.

When you arrive on campus, you will first notice the Mahler building with flags out front.  Park in front of Mahler and stop by the Welcome Desk just inside the glass doors.  At the Welcome Desk, pick up a map of the center, sign in as a visitor, and register your vehicle with the ILC.

Those living on campus should be sure to check in to their rooms before Orientation begins since the SIL Housing Office may close before Orientation concludes.

Housing

Housing should be arranged prior to your arrival on campus. Although Dallas International does not provide any housing, on-campus accommodations may be available through the SIL Housing Office.
